Mackenzie Dern rips UFC 330 performance despite dominant title win

Mackenzie Dern dominated Gillian Robertson to successfully defend her UFC strawweight title for the first time at UFC 330, earning a unanimous decision. Yet despite the decisive victory, the champion voiced significant dissatisfaction with her overall performance.

Dern told Ariel Helwani that she fell short across multiple dimensions of her fighting arsenal. "I'm not happy with my performance," the champ said. "I wish I did better. I wasn't happy with my cardio, my endurance. I wasn't happy with my striking. I wasn't happy with my grappling." While she acknowledged Robertson's toughness, Dern believed she should have finished the fight outright. She worries that the level she displayed would not hold up against other emerging contenders in the division.

Dern claimed the title last year by defeating Virna Jandiroba after Weili Zhang vacated to move up in weight. Looking ahead, Dern is eyeing defenses against Zhang, Tatiana Suarez, or Lupita Godinez—fighters who would likely punish the kind of performance issues the champ identified on the night. Her self-critique reflects the standards elite fighters maintain, even when their opponents cannot provide a stern test.
