Din Thomas retires from cornering after Gillian Robertson’s UFC 330 loss

Din Thomas has stepped away from cornering fighters following Gillian Robertson's unsuccessful strawweight title challenge against Mackenzie Dern at UFC 330 in Philadelphia. The veteran analyst announced his retirement from the corner role during the UFC 330 post-fight show, explaining that he had set a personal goal to take Robertson as far as she could reach in the sport—a milestone he believes may have already been reached.

Robertson struggled against Dern both in the striking exchanges and on the mat, resulting in a one-sided title defense for the champion. Thomas acknowledged that while he will continue working with fighters in other capacities, the demands of cornering have become unsustainable for him.

"I told myself I would continue to do this until I took Gillian as far as she could go," Thomas explained. "I think that might be as far as she can go and I am officially retiring from cornering fighters tonight. I'm doing the Matt Serra, I'm no longer cornering fighters… I'll still work with guys. I just don't want to go down the road. It's a lot of work; it's a lot of stress. You got to be there all week. I don't cut weight with them; it's not fair to them. They need somebody who's going to put in that type of work in with them."

Thomas (26-9) competed as a fighter in the UFC after earning a spot on "The Ultimate Fighter" in 2006, and has served as an analyst for the promotion in recent years. His decision mirrors the approach taken by legendary cornerman Matt Serra, who similarly stepped back from the role.
