Dustin Poirier shares UFC’s response following Atlanta airport arrest

Dustin Poirier has revealed that UFC executive Hunter Campbell reached out to him following his arrest at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport last month, offering the promotion's continued support during a difficult personal period.

Poirier, a veteran of the UFC since his early career, was arrested for public drunkenness and allegedly threatening to fight a police officer while intoxicated. The incident also involved the use of a racial slur directed at law enforcement. Campbell's message emphasized that the UFC would not abandon Poirier despite the troubling circumstances, assuring the fighter that the organization had his back after more than a decade of service. Notably, Poirier did not hear directly from UFC President Dana White.

The 30-10 fighter has taken responsibility for his actions without deflecting blame. Since retiring from active competition last year, Poirier has struggled with mental health challenges, a situation he has now openly acknowledged. Though still under UFC contract and not entirely ruling out a future return, Poirier has committed himself to long-term sobriety. As of late July, he reported being 28 days sober following the airport incident, marking a positive step forward in his recovery efforts.
