Dustin Poirier lost Bud Light deal worth 'A few hundred thousand dollars'

Dustin Poirier has revealed the financial toll of his recent arrest for public drunkenness at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The former UFC interim lightweight champion, who previously served as a brand ambassador for Bud Light, lost a sponsorship deal worth several hundred thousand dollars when the company terminated his contract immediately following the incident.

During the arrest, Poirier became involved in an altercation with a police officer, whom he threatened to fight while also hurling a racial slur. He was subsequently released on bail. In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Poirier acknowledged the substantial financial loss but expressed acceptance of the outcome. "It sucks that my family loses out on the money I had left on the deal with them, which is a few hundred thousand dollars," Poirier said. "But also, if I'm representing something, if I'm advertising something that I'm not going to be taking part in, promoting stuff—it is what it is."

Since the arrest, Poirier has committed to sobriety and made amends by reaching out to the police officer involved. Now 28 days sober, he has given up alcohol entirely, acknowledging that responsible drinking is not part of his lifestyle. "There are plenty of people out there who do drink responsibly. I'm not one," he explained. Poirier's situation underscores how high-profile athletes' off-cage conduct can have serious commercial consequences, while also demonstrating a willingness to address personal struggles directly.
