Dana White confirms Conor McGregor injury return timetable

Conor McGregor faces an extended layoff following a knee injury sustained during his brief return to action at UFC 329. The Irish fighter's comeback lasted just 69 seconds before being halted by injury in a matchup against Max Holloway, marking his first cage appearance since July 2026, when he suffered a broken leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier.
McGregor has publicly stated his intention to compete again in summer 2027, and recently posted a video apparently showing him performing leg exercises. However, UFC President Dana White expressed skepticism about the timeline during a post-Zuffa Boxing press conference, noting that "Conor McGregor's out for a year." White downplayed the significance of the training footage, despite having spoken with McGregor via FaceTime that same evening.
The 38-year-old fighter has pointed to his previous experience with a torn ACL suffered against Holloway in 2013, when he returned to competition after nine months. McGregor believes modern regenerative medicine and advanced training methods will allow him to meet his summer 2027 target. He has made it clear that his goal is to complete the final fight remaining on his UFC contract.
McGregor's current injury extends what has already become a lengthy period of inactivity punctuated by setbacks. His most recent victory came in January 2020, leaving him winless across multiple years and injury-interrupted comeback attempts. The knee injury at UFC 329 now represents another significant obstacle to his return to competition.
