Casey O’Neill says knee ‘gave out’ moments before UFC 331 submission
Casey O'Neill defeated Eduarda Moura at UFC 331 via first-round armbar, but the fight took a concerning turn early when O'Neill's left knee gave out immediately after throwing a kick. Moura caught the kick, took O'Neill down, and briefly threatened with strikes and a failed brabo choke attempt. O'Neill, however, managed to flip Moura and execute a slick armbar to secure the submission within seconds.
In her post-fight interview, O'Neill described the alarming moment: "I threw a kick and my left knee gave out. So, it was really weird. I don't know if it was like a cramp or something happened." She noted that the injury compromised her left-side defense; she could feel her toes cramping and sensed she had to act quickly. Despite the physical setback, O'Neill stayed composed, avoided serious danger, and capitalized on a submission opportunity.
O'Neill had been sidelined for nearly two years following a severe right knee injury. She returned to action this past March and has now finished both of her opponents in the first round since her comeback. The two consecutive dominant performances suggest "King" is regaining her form and ready to remain active. Moura, meanwhile, is 3-3 in the UFC and currently on a two-fight skid.
