Brendan Schaub has grown frustrated with Ian Machado Garry's promotional approach ahead of the welterweight's UFC title shot next month. While praising Garry's fighting ability—calling him "one of the most talented dudes in the UFC" and a nightmare stylistic matchup—Schaub criticized his interview skills and public commentary as counterproductive to building fan interest.

Garry, preparing to challenge Islam Makhachev for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 330 in Philadelphia on August 15, has drawn attention for comments including a viral clip in which he claimed the world would be better if women ran it. Schaub found such remarks off-message and alienating to the fanbase.

"His PR is so bad," Schaub said on his YouTube channel. "He's the only guy I'd ever go, 'Let's not do any promo for this fight. You're turning everybody off.' It's so bad." Schaub acknowledged that Garry possesses exceptional technical skills inside the octagon but suggested his out-of-cage presence undermines his own promotion. He referenced the infamous "shut up and dribble" criticism leveled at LeBron James, noting he normally opposes restricting athletes' speech—until he heard Garry's interviews. "I'm like, 'Shut up and fight,' because you're turning everybody off," Schaub concluded.
