Mateusz Gamrot credits teammate Dustin Poirier's presence as a source of motivation heading into his lightweight showdown against Quillan Salkilld at UFC Fight Night 284 on August 8 at Las Vegas's Meta Apex. The Polish fighter (26-4) will headline the card opposite the undefeated Salkilld (12-1), who has notched four first-round finishes in five UFC appearances since earning his contract on Dana White's Contender Series.

Gamerot recently revealed that Poirier, his American Top Team training partner, texted him expressing intent to attend the fight as a desk analyst for the broadcast. "He brings crazy energy, an every-day attitude," Gamrot told Full Send MMA. "He said he wants to come to my fight, and I told him if you come, you give me 100% more power. If Dustin comes to this fight, I'll be immortal." The former interim champion's appearance marks his first analyst role since his arrest on a public drunkenness charge at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in June, though the UFC and Paramount+ have continued to back him.

Gamerot enters the bout at 2-2 in his last four fights, coming off a submission victory over Esteban Ribovics. Salkilld made his most recent statement in May by dismantling veteran Beneil Dariush. For Gamrot, the added morale boost of Poirier's attendance could prove crucial against an opponent riding momentum and an undefeated record inside the octagon.
