Thad Jean captured the PFL welterweight championship at the promotion's D.C. event on Saturday, defeating late-notice replacement Ernesto Rodriguez via TKO in the third round.
Jean was originally scheduled to face 2025 tournament champion Shamil Musaev, but Musaev withdrew due to weight-cutting complications. Rodriguez, who was originally slated for the undercard, accepted the title fight on 48 hours' notice and delivered a stunning performance that nearly finished Jean in the second round. Rodriguez dropped Jean with a combination and threatened repeatedly with rear-naked choke attempts, but Jean's conditioning proved decisive.
