Jay Alderete explains crotch grab celebration after beating Cameron Smotherman

Jay Alderete dominated Cameron Smotherman at Fury FC 121 in Houston, dropping the former UFC fighter with a head kick before finishing him with a brabo choke in the second round. The undefeated prospect then celebrated with a crotch grab that went viral, though Alderete has since explained the provocation behind the controversial gesture.

According to Alderete, Smotherman had claimed pre-fight that he knew nothing about the rising prospect. After the submission, Alderete confronted Smotherman, reminding him that he would never forget the name. Smotherman reportedly "crashed out," requiring security to restrain him, and even attempted a sneak attack after being dragged from the cage. Alderete's frustration escalated when Smotherman's corner and supporters in attendance began taunting him with obscene gestures, including crotch grabs directed at the fighter.

"One dude's raising his stuff at me, right? He's doing a crotch grab at me... and I'm like, you know what? F*ck ya'll," Alderete told MMA Fighting, defending his post-fight conduct. The 19-year-old remains undefeated at 6-0 with five finishes since debuting last year. Smotherman, meanwhile, was recently released from the UFC after a three-fight losing streak and had become an internet curiosity after collapsing following weight cuts at UFC 324.
