UFC Shanghai reportedly adds flyweight bout for return to China
The UFC is set to return to China on August 29 at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium for UFC Fight Night 286, and a flyweight matchup has been added to the card. Kevin Borjas (11-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) will face Rei Tsuruya (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC), according to multiple reports, though the promotion has not yet officially announced the booking.
Borjas, a Dana White's Contender Series alumnus, has found the going tough inside the Octagon, holding a 2-4 record. In his most recent appearance, the Peruvian defeated Andre Lima via unanimous decision despite missing weight. Tsuruya, a Japanese 125-pounder who earned his UFC spot through Road to UFC, made his promotional debut at UFC 303 with a decision win over Carlos Hernandez. He subsequently lost to current flyweight champion Joshua Van but bounced back with a first-round rear-naked choke submission of Luis Gurule.
The Shanghai event will be headlined by a significant bantamweight clash featuring former title challenger Umar Nurmagomedov against China's Yadong Song.
