Valter Walker isn't buying the Josh Hokit or Gable Steveson hype

Brazilian heavyweight Valter Walker has dismissed the hype surrounding rising UFC prospects Josh Hokit and Gable Steveson, claiming neither fighter has earned the reputation they have received. Walker, who boasts four victories in his last five fights and a grappling-heavy skill set with four consecutive submission wins, believes both Americans are significantly overrated.

When asked about Hokit, Walker was blunt in his assessment. "Honestly, I don't think he's the fighter people are making him out to be. Come on, he's small. I'm not intimidated by that guy at all," Walker told MMA Fighting. He was equally dismissive of Steveson, an Olympic wrestling champion whose UFC debut at UFC 329 saw him finish Elisha Ellison in the first round. "I watched Gable's debut, and I wasn't that impressed. I didn't get all the hype."

Walker, scheduled to face Thomas Petersen at UFC Abu Dhabi on July 25, has expressed eagerness to fight either prospect next. "I'm not scared of Josh Hokit or Gable Steveson one bit," he added. He believes a matchup with Hokit could headline a UFC card given the potential for trash talk and drew particular interest in facing Steveson, whose wrestling ties and connection to former two-division champion Jon Jones present an opportunity for drama. "Can you imagine? I beat him, climb on the cage, and spit in Jon Jones' face," Walker said, suggesting such a victory would elevate his profile significantly and turn attention his way.
