Valter Walker explains why Derrick Lewis is his preferred UFC heavyweight opponent

Valter Walker, the Brazilian submission specialist known as "The Foot Hunter," is setting his sights on high-profile opposition for his next UFC heavyweight bout. Walker has submitted his last five opponents in the first round and is hoping to return to action in October or November. In recent comments, he named two potential targets: former title challenger Derrick Lewis and unbeaten rising contender Josh Hokit.

While Walker is open to either matchup, he has made clear his preference. "If I could pick, I would pick Derrick Lewis," Walker told MMA Junkie. "I think for me it's an interesting fight. He has a big name and a more big name than Josh Hokit. I think Derrick Lewis has an interesting name in the game. I watched him when I was young. He has the record for knocking people out, and I try to make my name in the game."

The context for Walker's interest stems partly from recent heavyweight activity in the UFC. Hokit and Lewis faced off at UFC Freedom 250, with Hokit emerging victorious—but Walker sees Lewis as the bigger name and more significant scalp for his resume. As the UFC's all-time knockout record holder, Lewis remains one of the division's most recognizable figures.

Despite his stated preferences, Walker emphasized his flexibility. "I'm a soldier for the UFC," he concluded. "Whoever the UFC gives me, I'm happy and I'll agree." With his explosive submission record and willingness to accept top-tier competition, Walker's return later this year could shake up the heavyweight landscape.
