Dana White doubles down on ‘f*cking moronic’ Josh Hokit comment about Michelle Obama at UFC White House card

Dana White doubled down on his criticism of UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit's controversial remarks about former First Lady Michelle Obama following Hokit's victory over Derrick Lewis at the UFC's historic White House event in June.

Immediate after his win, Hokit used his post-fight interview to insult Obama, declaring "Michelle Obama is a man … am I right America?" The comment drew widespread backlash and prompted an initial statement from White condemning the moment. During an appearance on The Pivot podcast, White expanded on his position, calling Hokit's remarks "f*cking moronic" and "gross."

White acknowledged that public figures like the Obamas inevitably face criticism, but argued that Hokit crossed a line. "First of all, former First Lady of the United States. No. 2, a wife, a mother. It's f*cking gross," White said, emphasizing the inappropriateness of the timing and context.

Despite his personal distaste for the comment, White reiterated his commitment to protecting freedom of speech within the UFC. He explained that while he dislikes Hokit's statement, he cannot selectively enforce speech restrictions. "When you talk about freedom of speech, it's usually the grossest stuff that has to be protected," White noted, adding that one cannot "pick and choose" what is allowed. White also revealed he didn't hear the remark during the live broadcast and only learned of it after the event concluded. The White House card was otherwise considered a success, but Hokit's outburst tainted what White described as a "perfect event in every way."
