Luana Santos believes the UFC women's bantamweight division will survive despite recent concerns sparked by the promotion's reluctance to sign and retain top-tier talent. The speculation about a potential shutdown intensified after the UFC closed its featherweight division when Amanda Nunes retired as a two-division champion in 2023. When Kayla Harrison captured the bantamweight title after leaving the PFL, Nunes decided to un-retire for a shot at the belt—yet the UFC has since passed on signing notable fighters like two-time PFL champion Larissa Pacheco and declined to renew a contract with top-five contender Ketlen Vieira, raising questions about the division's future.

Santos, however, remains optimistic. She argues that 135 pounds is simply a quieter division with fewer fights, but that activity is increasing and new talent is entering the ranks. She views the situation as an opportunity rather than a threat, noting that her social media following and fan connection could position her well once Harrison and Nunes eventually face off and retire. Santos acknowledges that the bantamweight division lacks a breakout marketable star beyond Harrison and the returning Nunes, and she doesn't believe fans should expect the same promotional flair from her as they might from rivals like Ailin Perez.

Santos maintains that authenticity, not forced trash-talk or manufactured drama, drives genuine marketability—and that's what will ultimately sustain her career. She's currently riding a two-fight winning streak and prepares to face Karol Rosa at UFC Vegas 119 on Saturday. Looking ahead, Santos hopes to secure a career-defining victory over the durable Rosa, who has never been finished in twelve UFC bouts, and plans at least one more fight in 2026 before pushing toward title contention.
