Jiri Prochazka training methods include bushido-inspired rituals
Jiri Prochazka continues to embrace unconventional, bushido-inspired training methods as part of his preparation for future competition. The former UFC light heavyweight champion is known for extreme rituals including blindfolded training, swimming beneath frozen lakes, and extended breath-hold sprints. His latest ceremonial practice involved deliberately walking into a patch of stinging nettles—plants that cause a burning, tingling sensation—as a symbolic cleansing ritual marking the transition from spring to summer. "A ceremonial strengthening with nettles to mark the end of spring and the beginning of summer," Prochazka posted on Instagram, describing the experience as one where the body tingles throughout the night before feeling "cleansed and reborn" the following morning. Prochazka (32-6) is rebuilding after a recent setback at UFC 327 in April, where he challenged Carlos Ulberg for the vacant light heavyweight title. Despite appearing on the verge of finishing Ulberg with aggressive leg kicks, the New Zealand fighter mounted a dramatic first-round comeback to secure the victory. In the UFC, Prochazka has suffered only two losses—to Ulberg and Alex Pereira—while finishing all six of his wins in the promotion.
