Mackenzie Dern names three potential opponents following UFC 330 win
Mackenzie Dern retained her UFC strawweight title at UFC 330 in Philadelphia with a dominant unanimous decision over Gillian Robertson, showcasing her superior grappling to control all five rounds. With her first title defense secured, Dern turned her attention to potential challengers in the 115-pound division.
In her post-fight interview, Dern named three contenders who could merit the next shot at her belt: Tatiana Suarez, Lupita Godinez, and former champion Weili Zhang. Suarez, who holds a 12-1 record, previously challenged for gold before losing to Zhang in February of the previous year; she has since bounced back with consecutive wins over Amanda Lemos and Godinez. Zhang, sitting at 26-4, captured the strawweight title before vacating it to pursue flyweight gold, only to fall short against current 125-pound champion Valentina Shevchenko. Godinez, at 14-6, represents a rising contender in the division.
Dern's measured response reflected the competitive landscape at strawweight. "I know there's Tatiana, Weili… Who else? Lupita could be coming up pretty soon," she said, acknowledging the depth of talent awaiting her next defense. The champion's confidence in her grappling-heavy approach suggests that regardless of opponent, she intends to remain in control of the title picture.
