Dana White gets brutally honest about potential Josh Hokit title reign
Dana White made clear his reservations about a potential Josh Hokit championship reign during the UFC 331 post-fight press conference. Hokit, an unbeaten heavyweight, is set to challenge Ciryl Gane for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 334 on November 14 at Madison Square Garden. Gane holds the undisputed belt after Tom Aspinall's relinquishment.
White has previously clashed with Hokit over his controversial promotion style and antics, including behaviour at UFC Freedom 250 at the White House. When asked about the prospect of Hokit becoming champion, White stated he had "lots and lots" of thoughts on the matter.
The UFC president reiterated his philosophy on fighter conduct, saying he does not police what athletes say and that a personal relationship is not required for success in the promotion. "I don't have to like you for you to thrive here," White said. However, he was notably blunt about Hokit specifically: "I'm not saying I don't like Josh Hokit; I literally don't like anything Josh Hokit says. And that's not going to change unless he changes and I don't see that happening." Despite his personal views, White made clear that Hokit's winning record earns him the title opportunity.
