Patricio Freire makes UFC contract intentions clear ahead of final fight on deal

Patricio Freire is eyeing a contract renewal with the UFC after his bout against Doo Ho Choi at UFC 331 on September 19 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The Brazilian veteran made clear in a recent interview that the Choi fight represents the final bout on his current deal, and he expects the promotion to extend his contract should he emerge victorious.

Freire, who holds a professional record of 37–9, joined the UFC after a storied run in Bellator but has struggled to gain traction in the Octagon. His current mark in the promotion sits at 1–2, following a debut loss to Yair Rodriguez, a decision victory over Dan Ige, and a subsequent decision loss to Aaron Pico. The former Bellator champion is far from alone among recent crossovers to stumble in the UFC; several other high-profile Bellator alumni have found the transition difficult, with some already departing the promotion entirely.

Despite his record, Freire remains confident in his prospects. "I think this is the last one," he said, referring to the Choi matchup. "I want to stay. I'm going to win this fight and I'm going to renew the contract." At 37 years old, the Brazilian is banking on a signature performance against the South Korean striker to prove he still belongs among the UFC's elite featherweights and secure his future with the promotion.
