Chris Curtis claims the UFC isn’t giving him Luis Hernandez matchup
Chris Curtis is growing impatient waiting for the UFC to matchmake him against Luis Hernandez, despite his repeated requests to the promotion's matchmakers. The middleweight contention dates back to a Tuff-N-Uff event last year, when Hernandez defeated Curtis' Xtreme Couture teammate Miles Hunsinger and subsequently mocked both Curtis and cornerman Sean Strickland cageside—a moment that nearly sparked an all-out brawl before security separated the fighters and their camps.
When Hernandez earned his UFC contract via Dana White's Contender Series earlier this month, Curtis immediately called matchmakers seeking the fight. He claims he was told Hernandez was too inexperienced. After Hernandez made an impressive 10-day turnaround to submit Sedriques Dumas on short notice at UFC Vegas 121, Curtis tried again—and was denied once more, with matchmakers allegedly telling him Hernandez was still not at his level.
Despite the rejection, Curtis says he's willing to wait. A Hernandez teammate reportedly told Curtis his rival wanted to squash their beef, but Curtis made clear he has no interest in reconciliation. Speaking on Instagram, Curtis expressed his commitment to the feud while paradoxically wishing Hernandez well enough to earn a few UFC wins first. "I've been circling this man like a shark in the water," Curtis said, using graphic language to describe his intentions once they finally square off. The 32-13 veteran appears content to let Hernandez build his record before settling their score in the octagon.
