Jamahal Hill targeting undefeated Josh Hokit in heavyweight move

Jamahal Hill is bypassing a gradual ascent up the heavyweight ranks, instead targeting undefeated prospect Josh Hokit for his divisional debut later this year. The former light heavyweight champion intends to make an immediate impact in the heavier class rather than repeat the climb that defined his earlier UFC career.

Hill's decision to move up comes after a turbulent stretch at 205 pounds. Though he captured the light heavyweight title by defeating Glover Teixeira, a subsequent three-fight losing streak combined with recurring injuries derailed his tenure in the division. At 35 years old, Hill believes a fresh start at heavyweight offers his best path toward championship contention.

"I'd love to fight the Top 5," Hill told media outlets. "I want Josh Hokit first fight. That's definitely a fight I want more than any other fight." Hokit (10-0) presents an intriguing challenge as an undefeated heavyweight who has drawn considerable attention, both for his fighting abilities and his controversial public persona. The prospect most recently defeated Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250 and maintains an ongoing rivalry with former two-division champion and interim heavyweight title challenger Alex Pereira.

Hill is confident his aggressive pressure and punching power—attributes that established him as a top light heavyweight—will translate effectively to the heavier division. "Heavyweight can use some energy, can use some life, especially up in the contenders and the rankings," Hill explained.
