Daniel Cormier at last recalls why Brock Lesnar superfight collapsed

Daniel Cormier has finally explained why a blockbuster superfight with Brock Lesnar never materialized, revealing that WWE's lucrative offer to Lesnar was the deciding factor.

In 2018, Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic to claim the UFC heavyweight championship. Lesnar immediately seized the moment, storming into the Octagon to shove Cormier and deliver an intense verbal challenge—seemingly setting the stage for a massive collision between two of combat sports' biggest names.

During a recent YouTube Q&A, Cormier recalled his genuine desire to face Lesnar and even recounted a memorable phone call he received before his Miocic bout. "I was at my daughter's gymnastics, and I get a random number," Cormier said. "It's Brock. He tells me, 'You knock him out, it's going to be Christmas early for your family because we're going to fight.'"

Ultimately, however, the fight never came to pass. Cormier attributed the collapse to financial incentives from WWE, where Lesnar maintained a lucrative contract. "It didn't happen because the WWE gave him too much money, and he made the right choice," Cormier explained, also noting his shared wrestling background with Lesnar—both competed at the junior college level in the same year, with Lesnar at Minnesota and Cormier at Oklahoma State. Despite his disappointment, the former two-division champion expressed pride in Lesnar's financial success and career choices.
