UFC Shanghai: Julia Polastri flattens Xiong Jingnan with brutal head-kick knockout

Julia Polastri delivered the knockout of her career at UFC Shanghai on Saturday, stopping former ONE Championship flyweight champion Xiong Jingnan with a spectacular head kick in the first round of their preliminary bout.

Polastri and Xiong engaged in an immediate exchange, with Polastri—nicknamed "Psycho"—forcing her opponent backward early. Xiong, known as "The Panda," remained comfortable in the pocket and traded strikes with Polastri until being driven to the fence. Once there, the tide turned decisively. Polastri unleashed a right hand followed by a right head kick that landed flush on Xiong's head, dropping her unconscious before she could hit the canvas.

The finish marks a significant rebound for Polastri, who suffered a loss to Talita Alencar in April. The Brazilian's technical striking and timing on display suggested her form is improving. For Xiong, the result deepens a difficult run in the UFC, leaving her record in the promotion at 0-2 after previously being a champion in another major organization.

While the highlight-reel quality of Polastri's knockout would normally position her for a UFC Performance bonus, both fighters' failure to make weight ahead of the bout rendered it ineligible for the award.
