UFC pulls Mickey Gall from long-awaited return for medical reasons
Mickey Gall's long-awaited return to the UFC has been derailed by medical reasons. The welterweight was scheduled to face Sedriques Dumas at UFC Vegas 121 on September 26 after nearly two years away from competition, but the UFC pulled him from the bout following pre-fight medical examinations.
Gall revealed the news on Instagram, stating that the UFC informed him on September 24 that results from his medical tests rendered him ineligible to fight. "Something came back on my medicals that [is] making me ineligible via simple procedure," he wrote. The 34-year-old expressed frustration at the timing, having not won a fight since 2021 and hoping to deliver a victory to his supporters. "I wanted to give my friends, my family, my fans something to cheer about. And I've worked really hard for that. Unfortunately, that's not gonna be able to happen this weekend. But once I get this situated and straightened out, I will be back."
Gall, who entered the UFC in 2016 during his second pro fight, compiled a 7-7 record inside the octagon. He began his career promisingly with three straight finishes but subsequently alternated between wins and losses before an extended four-fight losing streak beginning in 2021. Dana White's Contender Series graduate Luis Hernandez stepped up on short notice to face Dumas in Gall's place.
