Movsar Evloev targets first UFC finish in title fight vs. Alexander Volkanovski
Movsar Evloev will challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the UFC featherweight title at UFC 333 on October 24 at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The unbeaten Russian has yet to record a finish in the UFC despite his rise through the promotion's ranks, but he is intent on changing that in his first championship bout.
Evloev told MMA Fighting that he wants to secure a stoppage against Volkanovski and lay to rest any lingering doubts about the quality of his wins. The 38-year-old Volkanovski is a former multi-division champion, and Evloev is keen to face him in peak condition to silence critics who have previously dismissed his regional victories by suggesting his opponents were past their prime or unprepared.
"This is my first title fight, and we're looking to make it my first finish in the UFC," Evloev said. "I used to beat champions before joining the UFC, and when I beat them, people used to say, 'OK, they weren't that good like before.' I don't want to hear this [old excuse] again, so I want him to be in his prime, in the best condition, so I can show my skills."
Evloev's path has been marked by dominant performances and notable victories over respected competition, establishing him as a legitimate contender. A finish over Volkanovski would represent a landmark achievement in his career and provide undeniable validation of his elite standing in the featherweight division.
