Michel Pereira released from UFC following loss to ‘Shara Bullet’

Michel Pereira has parted ways with the UFC following a unanimous decision loss to Sharabutdin Magomedov at UFC Baku. The Brazilian fighter exits the promotion after six years and a 10-6 record across two weight classes, finishing his Octagon run on a disappointing stretch—he has lost four of his last five bouts.

Pereira made his UFC debut in 2019 against Danny Roberts and accumulated ten victories inside the Octagon before declining in recent years. The 32-year-old had renewed his contract with a split-decision win over Zachary Reese in February, then agreed to a one-fight deal to face Magomedov in Azerbaijan. That final appearance ended in defeat.

Following the loss, Pereira criticized referee Herb Dean for failing to deduct points from Magomedov despite multiple warnings for hair pulling, and also noted that Magomedov avoided a point deduction for an apparent eye poke. Despite these grievances, the decision stood and marked the end of Pereira's tenure with the promotion.

Pereira's best stretch came during an eight-fight winning streak between 2020 and 2024, but that momentum evaporated after consecutive losses to Anthony Hernandez, Abus Magomedov, and Kyle Daukaus. While some fighters have secured multiple UFC stints and even won championships after returning, Pereira's recent inconsistency and age may complicate any future re-signing.
