Fazil claimed he was attacked by a group of approximately 15 individuals of Chechnya descent during his weight cut prior to the fight. According to his account, the altercation involved physical contact and drew police attention. The incident sparked a broader conversation on social media, with former UFC welterweight champion Khamzat Chimaev—himself a Chechen native—issuing a statement calling for unity between Chechen and Kurdish communities while expressing disapproval of the situation.

When questioned about the matter at the UFC Sacramento post-fight press conference, White remained evasive, saying only that "we had kind of a weird week here" and that the promotion had "handled it behind the scenes." Fazil's fight ended poorly, with Brito delivering a knockout victory. White also addressed criticism of UFC fighter Baisangur Sursurkaev, who appeared to mock Fazil following the incident and seemed to suggest involvement. White indicated that internal action had been taken by the promotion but offered no public statement on consequences.

"Lots of crazy shit happens every day in this business," White said, emphasizing the promotion's preference for resolving such matters privately rather than through public proceedings.
