Salahdine Parnasse sees ‘perfect fight’ in UFC debut against Dan Hooker

Salahdine Parnasse will make his highly anticipated UFC debut against established lightweight Dan Hooker in the main event of UFC Paris on September 5. The French fighter, a former two-division KSW champion with a 23–2 record, enters the Octagon with considerable momentum, riding a five-fight winning streak. Hooker, a 12-year UFC veteran, has recently struggled, losing consecutive bouts to top-ranked lightweights Benoit St. Denis and Arman Tsarukyan.

Parnasse views the matchup as an ideal opportunity to announce himself at the highest level of MMA. Though he acknowledges Hooker's experience and strength, the French prospect is drawn to the stylistic clash. Both fighters favour an aggressive, high-output approach in the cage, a dynamic Parnasse believes will produce an entertaining contest. "Dan Hooker is very strong, very experienced," Parnasse said at UFC Paris media day. "I think he is a big challenge and I love this challenge. I think he is a very explosive guy who likes to do a lot in his fights. And I think that with me, it's a perfect fight because we are both two guys who like to go out there and put on a great show."

For the newcomer, victory would immediately establish him as a contender in the competitive lightweight division, while a loss to an experienced hand like Hooker would be no disgrace. For Hooker, a win could begin reversing his recent slide and keep him relevant among the division's upper echelon.
