Dan Hooker admits distractions crept in before recent UFC struggles
Dan Hooker has opened up about personal and professional distractions that contributed to recent struggles inside the octagon. The veteran lightweight, preparing for a UFC Paris main event against Salahdine Parnasse on September 5, acknowledged that success and rising profile pulled him in multiple directions away from his core focus on fighting.
"With success and moving up, you get pulled in a million different directions," Hooker explained. He cited his own fight show, business ventures, sponsorship deals, and travel commitments as factors that diluted his training mentality. For the first decade of his career, Hooker maintained an unwavering routine of eating, sleeping, and training. That singular dedication had eroded in recent years, and he believes it showed in the octagon.
Hooker, who has been finished in his last two UFC bouts, attributed the decline directly to loss of focus and insufficient energy invested in preparation. "That led to the last few performances where you're just not showing up and giving it the time and energy and focus that this career requires," he said. However, the Kiwi has refocused his priorities, reducing distractions and recommitting to the disciplined approach that defined his career's foundation. He insists he is now fully prepared for the challenge posed by Parnasse at UFC Paris.
