Anthony Smith’s wife, manager release statements after his recent arrest

Anthony Smith, the former UFC title challenger and longtime analyst, turned himself in to police on Monday following an arrest warrant issued in connection with a domestic incident from July 26. The "Lionheart" was charged with three felonies: attempted first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats, and first-degree false imprisonment. Authorities alleged that Smith threatened to kill his wife following an altercation at a bar. He was released on a $500,000 bond and ordered to maintain distance from his wife pending trial.

Smith's wife released a statement on social media addressing the charges. "I love Anthony with every ounce of my being," she wrote, describing him as "a good man, a great dad, and an incredible husband." She emphasized her safety throughout the incident and characterized the situation as a mental health struggle. "I called for help to protect him from himself," she added, asserting that he would never harm her.

Smith's manager, Brian Butler, also issued a statement urging restraint in judgment. "Anthony is entitled to the presumption of innocence and the due process protections afforded under our justice system," Butler said, asking the public to avoid rushing to conclusions based on initial reports. He requested privacy for Smith and his family as legal proceedings continue.

The 25-fight UFC veteran retired from competition last year but returned to the octagon in April, fighting at Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 9 event. Smith is scheduled to appear in Sarpy County District Court on August 17.
