The 29-year-old fighter discovered a massive thrombosis in his neck and a pulmonary embolism in his lung after experiencing distressing symptoms during a three-mile run. Silva, who boasts an 11–2 record with only one UFC loss, revealed his ordeal on Instagram, noting that doctors told him 50 percent of patients with his condition do not survive—and that his elite physical conditioning likely saved his life.
