UFC 331 fight night weights: Joshua Van gained over 20 pounds for his title fight against Alexandre Pantoja

UFC 331 fighters revealed significant weight gains between Friday's weigh-ins and Saturday's main card in Los Angeles, according to data released by the California State Athletic Commission.
Flyweight champion Joshua Van headlined the event against Alexandre Pantoja, each hitting the 125-pound limit on the scale before fight night. Van then added 20.8 pounds to weigh 145.8 pounds for the bout, while Pantoja gained 15.2 pounds to reach 140.2 pounds—a common pattern in combat sports where fighters cut weight to make their contracted limit, then rehydrate before competition.
The co-main event featured lightweight Arman Tsarukyan versus Mauricio Ruffy, with both competitors making substantial overnight gains. Tsarukyan weighed 156 pounds at the weigh-in and jumped to 177 pounds, a 21-pound increase. Ruffy, his Brazilian opponent, gained even more at 23 pounds, moving from 155 to 178 pounds.
Other notable weight jumps included featherweight Michael Aswell (24.8 pounds, from 146 to 170.8) and lightweight Ozzy Diaz (26.4 pounds, from 186 to 212.4). Even heavyweight Tai Tuivasa, competing at a naturally heavier weight class, gained 13.1 pounds from 264.5 to 277.6. Gable Steveson showed the smallest gain at just 1.2 pounds, moving from 240 to 241.2 pounds. The commission also tracked the percentage of body weight gained, which ranged from 0% for Steveson to 18% for middleweight Joanderson Brito.
