Nickal (8-1), a former three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion, entered as a highly touted prospect seeking to rebuild momentum after suffering his first professional loss to Reinier de Ridder. The 30-year-old had answered that setback impressively with a highlight-reel head kick knockout of Rodolfo Vieira at UFC 322, and Sunday's performance only strengthened his case as a legitimate middleweight contender.

Daukaus (17-4, 1 NC), competing in his second UFC stint after a brief departure in 2022, came in hot off back-to-back finishes—a 43-second knockout of Michel Pereira at UFC Shanghai in August and a 50-second submission of Gerald Meerschaert at UFC 322. The D'Arce Knight proved unable to handle Nickal's wrestling threat.
