Conor McGregor has called for his loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329 to be overturned to a no-contest, following a catastrophic return to competition after a five-year absence.

McGregor's comeback lasted just over a minute. Early in the main event, he attempted a jumping switch kick but landed awkwardly, severely injuring his knee. Despite trying to continue, the leg gave out multiple times, forcing referee stoppage and handing Holloway a TKO victory.

On Wednesday, McGregor took to social media to announce that medical test results on the knee injury were forthcoming. He simultaneously appealed for the loss to be rendered a no-contest rather than a decisive defeat, reasoning that the injury prevented a fair contest before it could truly begin.

Historically, such appeals have failed. The UFC denied a similar request last year when Alexandre Pantoja suffered an arm injury in the opening moments of his flyweight title fight against Joshua Van. The promotion has consistently upheld results even when early injuries compromise competition, viewing them as part of combat sports. McGregor will likely face the same rejection, leaving the loss on his record as he enters another recovery period. A potential trilogy with Holloway down the line remains his path to redemption in the octagon.
