Eddie Hearn says Tom Aspinall still needs ‘additional testing’ on his eyes before fighting again

UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall remains sidelined by medical clearance requirements following a serious eye injury sustained during his title defense against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 in October. While the fighter is eager to return and has resumed training, athletic commission approval stands as the final hurdle before he can step back into the octagon.

Aspinall's extended absence sparked speculation about his future with the UFC, prompting him to publicly deny rumors of seeking an exit from his contract. His business manager, Eddie Hearn, clarified the situation to Bloody Elbow, emphasizing that Aspinall remains under contract and fully committed to fighting. The delay stems entirely from medical and regulatory channels rather than any contractual dispute or lack of motivation.

"He's motivated, and I can't give you an exact date yet, but what I can tell you is he wants to get back in there as soon as he is physically able to do so," Hearn stated. He noted that Aspinall must undergo additional testing to satisfy athletic commission requirements before receiving clearance to compete.

Hearn expressed admiration for Aspinall's fighting mentality, revealing that the champion had turned down lucrative sponsorship deals in favor of returning to competition. The manager indicated that despite the frustration of the layoff, Aspinall's commitment to the sport remains unwavering. While speculation has centered on a potential rematch with Gane headlining UFC 334 at Madison Square Garden in November, Hearn declined to confirm any specific return date or opponent, stating only that timing depends entirely on Aspinall achieving medical clearance.
