Damian Pinas: 'I'm not here to finish fights early; it just happens'

Damian Pinas kept his knockout streak alive at UFC 329, flooring Cesar Almeida with a right hand to improve to 10-1, and insisted afterward that finishing fights early is a natural byproduct of his power rather than a deliberate strategy.

Pinas, a 24-year-old middleweight, faced Almeida in Las Vegas in a back-and-forth striking exchange. When the action heated up, Pinas landed a vicious right hand that sent Almeida to the canvas. Referee intervention followed after a second right hand, ending the bout in the first round.

The victory marked Pinas' second first-round finish in consecutive UFC appearances and his third overall, including a Dana White's Contender Series win last year. Despite being known for his signature jab-cross combination, Pinas displayed additional offensive tools at UFC 329, showcasing range beyond his trademark 1-2.

When asked about his early finishes, Pinas downplayed any intention to rush opponents out. "I'm not here to finish fights early; it just happens," he said in his post-fight interview. "I don't do it; it just happens." He emphasized his natural patience, noting he is ready for full three-round fights but that opponents simply cannot withstand his striking once he connects cleanly. "I can do whatever I want. I just throw my 1-2 because it's the easiest way to put them out," he explained, signaling he has far more in his arsenal than highlight clips suggest.

Almeida (7-3) falls to 3-3 inside the UFC and has now dropped consecutive bouts. Pinas, with just one loss in his record, has gone past the first round only twice in his ten victories, underscoring the finishing power that defines his young career.
