Gruesome photo of Alonzo Menifield’s UFC 331 thumb injury

Alonzo Menifield secured an impressive upset victory at UFC 331 over undefeated light heavyweight prospect Iwo Baraniewski, but the win came at a severe cost—a gruesome thumb injury that left bone exposed.
During the third round, cameras caught a clear view of Menifield's right thumb in visibly poor condition. The digit appeared broken, with what looked like bone protruding through the skin. Despite the apparent severity, Menifield pushed through to earn a hard-fought split decision. Post-fight, he confirmed the thumb had been significantly damaged during the bout. UFC CEO Dana White later shared an even more graphic image of the injury on social media.
The injury is substantial enough that recovery could take considerable time. However, Menifield has momentum on his side heading into the layoff. The veteran light heavyweight has now won two consecutive fights and claimed four victories in his past five outings. Three of those recent wins stand out as notable upsets: the decision over Baraniewski, plus prior victories against Zhang Mingyang and Oumar Sy. While the thumb injury will require healing and rehabilitation, Menifield's recent success streak provides a silver lining during his recovery period.
