Nathaniel Wood apologizes for stunning UFC Paris upset loss

Nathaniel Wood endured a stunning upset loss to Pavel Andrusca at UFC Paris on September 5, snapping a four-fight winning streak. Andrusca, an undefeated Moldovan making his UFC debut on just five days' notice after replacing injured original opponent Mairon Santos, proved he belonged at the elite level by outstriking Wood in the opening round. Though Wood rallied in the second, Andrusca took the third to secure a unanimous decision victory despite entering the bout as a +240 underdog against the -330 favored Englishman.

The loss marked a rare stumble for Wood (23–7), who had previously defeated prospects Morgan Charriere, Jose Delgado and Losene Keita. Reacting via social media, Wood apologized to his team for failing to perform up to standard, but pledged to return stronger.
