MVP fires back at Heather Hardy's $10M lawsuit over Amanda Serrano fight
Most Valuable Promotions has responded to a lawsuit filed by former world champion Heather Hardy seeking $10 million in damages over her August 2023 rematch with Amanda Serrano on the Jake Paul–Nate Diaz card.
Hardy alleges that MVP proceeded with the bout despite "extraordinary and foreseeable risk of serious neurological harm." She claims the fight resulted in permanent neurological damage, including traumatic brain injury, memory loss, and double vision.
In its response, MVP emphasized that Hardy was medically cleared by the athletic commission overseeing the event and that the bout proceeded under the commission's standard medical and safety protocols. The promotion noted that Hardy's participation was arranged through her promoter Lou DiBella, and that she publicly expressed gratitude for the opportunity both before and after the fight. MVP stated it "followed applicable protocols" and remains "committed to fighter safety and supporting the athletes who compete in our events in full compliance with commission standards." The promotion also extended sympathy to Hardy and hopes she receives appropriate care and support.
The lawsuit highlights ongoing concerns in combat sports regarding fighter safety, neurological health, and the legal responsibilities of promotions when bouts proceed despite documented medical risks. Hardy's case could have broader implications for how promotions, athletic commissions, and fighter representatives assess and manage injury risk in professional bouts.
