Jon Jones sends message to anyone trying to dethrone him as the GOAT of MMA

Jon Jones has reasserted his claim as mixed martial arts' greatest fighter following Alex Pereira's second-round knockout loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC White House this past weekend.

Pereira's defeat ended speculation that a victory and becoming the first-ever three-division champion would vault the Brazilian atop the all-time rankings, despite Dana White's declaration that such a feat would place him ahead of Jones. Jones, who had briefly addressed the chatter immediately after Pereira's loss, followed up with a social media message challenging any fighter attempting to dethrone him: "Thinking that you have the work ethic, the desire, the faith, and the focus to dethrone me as the GOAT of MMA. Good luck to you all."

Jones' credentials for the top spot are substantial. He became the youngest UFC champion in history when he claimed the light heavyweight title in 2011 and has since captured a heavyweight belt as well. His record includes victories over nine UFC champions, 16 wins in title fights, and 12 overall title defenses across multiple reigns. Though his 1,200-plus day reign as light heavyweight champion remains among the longest in UFC history, Jones has never technically tasted defeat—his lone loss coming by disqualification for illegal elbows against Matt Hamill.

However, Jones' path has not been without controversy. He was stripped of his title in 2015 following a hit-and-run incident, faced multiple suspensions for banned substance violations including an incident that overturned a 2017 victory over Daniel Cormier to a no-contest, and dealt with various legal issues outside the octagon. Despite these blemishes, his in-cage accomplishments remain unmatched by his peers. Whether anyone can compile a résumé substantial enough to genuinely challenge his GOAT status remains one of MMA's most debated questions.
