Shogun Rua wants Glover Teixeira rematch in boxing; Anderson Silva suggests ‘safer’ alternative

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has called for an immediate rematch with fellow UFC legend Glover Teixeira after losing a boxing decision to him on Saturday night in São Paulo, Brazil. Despite telling media before the bout that he would likely retire regardless of the outcome—his first competition since stepping away from the UFC in January 2023—Rua posted on social media asking for a return fight on the next Spaten Fight Night card.

"Because a true warrior never gives up," Rua said in his callout video, referencing the competitive nature of their bout. He highlighted moments where Teixeira dropped him in the second round and where Glover was badly hurt in the fifth, framing the contest as close enough to warrant a sequel.

Rua's former training partner Anderson Silva offered unsolicited advice in the comments, urging the Brazilian legend to pivot away from striking sports entirely. "Do it with the gi," Silva wrote. "Jiu-jitsu is safer, brother. You have nothing to prove to anyone, you have a lot of history." Silva's counsel underscored concerns about aging fighters continuing to absorb strikes at an advanced stage of their careers.

Teixeira, meanwhile, indicated he will keep competing into 2027 and has other boxing opponents in mind. He is interested in facing Alexander Gustafsson, whose team expressed openness to a boxing match, and also mentioned a potential "charity match" with Jan Błachowicz. Teixeira attributed some of his Saturday performance to ring rust after three and a half years away from competition, suggesting he could improve significantly if he fights again within the next six months.
