Israel Adesanya makes major training change amid UFC losing skid
Israel Adesanya has made a significant change to his training setup as he aims to reverse his recent UFC struggles. The former middleweight champion has left his longtime gym, City Kickboxing, and is now training at Freestyle MMA Performance Centre in Sydney alongside featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and lightweight contender Mauricio Ruffy.
Adesanya's move comes after a difficult stretch in which he has been finished three times since losing his title and has not recorded a victory in over three years. His most recent loss was a second-round knockout by Joe Pyfer in March. The new facility represents a fresh start for "The Last Stylebender," who appears to have a fight booked based on a recent social media post from his dietitian indicating the start of a pre-fight camp.
Ruffy, who also recently joined the Sydney gym after departing Fighting Nerds, has found success at his new home, winning two consecutive fights including a knockout of Michael Chandler at UFC Freedom 250. The combination of training with elite competition like Volkanovski and Ruffy, along with a new coaching environment, suggests Adesanya is approaching his comeback with renewed focus and fresh perspectives that may help halt his winless streak.
