UFC 330 has a backup plan, and it’s a 19-0 welterweight
The UFC has named 19-0 welterweight Michael Morales as the official backup for the Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Garry title bout headlining UFC 330 on August 15 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Morales has been instructed to make championship weight (170 pounds) and remain on standby should either champion Makhachev (28-1) or challenger Garry (17-1) withdraw due to injury, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances.
The assignment represents a major milestone for the undefeated Ecuadorian prospect, who has rapidly established himself as one of the welterweight division's elite contenders. Morales has remained perfect through seven UFC appearances and secured the biggest victory of his career in November with a first-round knockout of Sean Brady. The Dana White's Contender Series alum has built momentum both in results and popularity, earning three consecutive Performance of the Night bonuses in his last three outings. His perfect record and demonstrated finishing ability at the sport's highest level make him a credible contingency option should the main event be compromised.
