Islam Makhachev blames Ilia Topuria for cancellation of UFC White House booking

Islam Makhachev has blamed Ilia Topuria for the collapse of negotiations that would have pitted the welterweight champion against the featherweight titleholder at the UFC White House: Freedom 250 event. According to Makhachev, he was offered the bout and accepted immediately, expecting higher compensation due to the prestige of competing at the White House. The planned matchup fell through when Topuria's team demanded substantially more money, ultimately leading to Topuria's current commitment to defend his lightweight title against interim champion Justin Gaethje in the main event instead. Topuria's manager, Kawa, acknowledged in an interview that the money offered for the Makhachev bout was insufficient for a fight of that magnitude and caliber, prompting the rejection. Makhachev emphasized in a Red Corner MMA interview that while Topuria may offer his own narrative, it was his manager who made the final negotiating decision. "I can show you the chats with my manager," Makhachev said, noting that his representatives initially preferred him over Gaethje as Topuria's opponent.
