UFC Vegas 118 weigh-in results: Short-notice fighter misses weight

Australian light heavyweight Junior Tafa missed weight ahead of his UFC Vegas 118 bout against Iwo Baraniewski, stepping to the scale at 206.5 pounds—half a pound over the limit for the light heavyweight division. Despite a second attempt stripped down with a box around him, Tafa still failed to make weight and faces a fine as a percentage of his purse pending the fight's proceeding at a catchweight.
Tafa accepted the Baraniewski fight on just over two weeks' notice as a short-notice replacement for Billy Elekana, who withdrew for undisclosed reasons. The quick turnaround added to his challenge: this is his second fight in 35 days following a knockout victory over Kevin Christian at UFC Perth in May.
The rest of the UFC Vegas 118 main card had no weight-cutting issues. Welterweight headliners Belal Muhammad and Gabriel Bonfim both made weight comfortably, using the one-pound allowance for non-title bouts and registering at 170.5 pounds each. Muhammad, a former UFC champion, is seeking redemption after consecutive losses to Ian Machado Garry and Jack Della Maddalena; he currently ranks No. 7 at welterweight. Bonfim, ranked No. 15, has won four straight since his only professional loss to Nicolas Dalby in November 2023, most recently scoring a spectacular second-round knockout of Randy Brown last November when he headlined a UFC event for the first time.
Co-main event middleweights Brendan Allen and Edmen Shahbazyan also successfully made weight.
