Jon Jones has clarified the intent behind a viral video in which he wore a GOAT necklace following Alex Pereira's UFC Freedom 250 loss, asserting that the post was not directed at Pereira himself but rather aimed at critics who suggested Pereira would become the greatest fighter of all time if he defeated Ciryl Gane for interim heavyweight gold.

Pereira (13–4) fought to make history by capturing a UFC title in a third weight class, but Gane stopped him in the second round, derailing that ambition. Jones explained to Red Corner MMA that his subsequent video was a response to those who had predicted Pereira would cement GOAT status with victory, not a personal slight against the Brazilian fighter. "It was a message to all my haters. It wasn't directed towards Alex," Jones clarified.

Jones emphasized his respect for Pereira, recalling that after his brother Arthur died in October, Pereira publicly honored the loss. "After my brother died, Pereira came out and had a moment of silence for my brother. And I respect that very, very dearly," Jones stated. He stressed there was no disrespect intended toward Pereira and that he wishes him well.
