Impa Kasanganay explains why he already updated Instagram bio to PFL champion before title fight

Impa Kasanganay has already updated his Instagram bio to claim 'world champion' status heading into his interim middleweight title rematch against Johnny Eblen at PFL Austin on July 18, but he insists the move is not arrogance—it is an expression of faith and goal-setting.

Kasanganay lost a split decision to Eblen in their first meeting in 2024, shortly after completing a dominant 5-0 run to win the 2023 PFL season. Now on a two-fight finishing streak, Kasanganay views his fighting platform as a calling to inspire others through declared intention and spiritual conviction. "When I put that in the bio, it's not just for people, but it's also for God," Kasanganay told MMA Fighting, explaining that he used the same approach in 2023 before winning that season's championship. He frames his declarations as speaking life into existence—a message for those struggling with addiction, trauma, or despair to see what is possible. For Kasanganay, claiming victory before entering the cage is not egotism but faith in action and a refusal to be timid about pursuing his goals.

The interim belt will crown a champion in Eblen's absence due to injury; the original plan was for Eblen to defend the undisputed title against Costello van Steenis.
