Sean Strickland says ATV rolled 6 times at 60 MPH with no helmet
UFC middleweight Sean Strickland (31–7) narrowly escaped serious injury in an ATV accident, marking his second vehicle incident within a week and raising questions about a rumored December title defense.
Strickland's friend Chris Cornell was driving the ATV at approximately 60 mph when it flipped and rolled six times. Strickland, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered minor abrasions to his head and shoulders from impact with dirt and pavement during the tumble. Though he escaped major injury, he acknowledged feeling shaken immediately after.
In an Instagram video, Strickland described the ordeal. "I let my buddy drive; he rolled us going, like, 60. We rolled, like, six times," he said. "That was from my head smacking the ground while going 60; I did not have a helmet on. I'm an idiot."
Cornell sustained a more serious injury, losing consciousness temporarily and requiring hospitalization. In a follow-up post, Strickland expressed relief that his friend would recover and acknowledged the irony: he had been having "the most f*cking fun I've had in a very, very long time" before the crash. His sponsor, Rainbet, agreed to cover the financial damage.
This was Strickland's second accident in seven days, following a dirt bike fall earlier that week. The pattern echoes a severe motorcycle crash in 2018 that sidelined him for nearly two years. His recklessness off the bike now threatens his in-cage schedule: Strickland is rumored to defend his middleweight title in December against Nassourdine Imavov, but the accident could force the UFC to reschedule or pull him from the fight pending medical clearance.
