Sean O’Malley denies UFC offered Payton Talbott fight at White House
Sean O'Malley has denied claims that the UFC offered him a fight against rising bantamweight Payton Talbott at UFC Freedom 250, an event scheduled for June at the White House. Talbott had publicly stated he was in talks for the matchup following his first-round stoppage of Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 332, but O'Malley flatly disputed the assertion on social media.
"I'm here to f*cking address these rumors that I got offered Payton Talbott for the White House," O'Malley said. "That is just absolutely bullsh*t." The UFC bantamweight champion also pushed back against suggestions that he has avoided Talbott, pointing to his recent résumé as evidence of his willingness to face elite opposition. "4 out of the last 7 fights have been against three of the greatest bantamweights of all time," O'Malley wrote. "Ain't ducking no one."
O'Malley's next move hinges on the outcome of an upcoming title trilogy between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 333 on October 24. Should Yan retain his belt, O'Malley believes he earns the next title shot. However, if Dvalishvili—who has defeated O'Malley twice—reclaims the title, the champion suggested he would be open to facing Talbott as an interim step. The 20-3-1 fighter's cautious stance reflects the high stakes of bantamweight contention and the complex path to championship gold.
