Report: Zabit Magomedsharipov signs multi-fight deal for combat sports return
Zabit Magomedsharipov is returning to combat sports after nearly seven years away, signing a multi-fight deal with Real American Freestyle (RAF) and making his debut on November 14 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz.
Magomedsharipov, 35, was once considered one of MMA's most gifted featherweights during his UFC tenure, which ended in 2019. He officially retired from mixed martial arts in 2022, citing canceled fights and health concerns, and subsequently pursued a career in medicine. The former title contender has remained one of the sport's most compelling what-ifs—a fighter whose potential was never fully realized at the highest level.
His return to competition has been gradual. A planned grappling match against Raul Rosas Jr. at ACBJJ 21 in July fell through due to an undisclosed injury, but Magomedsharipov finally competed again in August 2026, earning a unanimous decision victory over Youssef Zalal in a grappling bout at ACBJJ 22. His pivot toward grappling competitions signals a measured re-entry into combat sports, with the RAF deal now representing a step toward active MMA competition once again.
The announcement, first reported by ESPN's Brett Okamoto on October 6, has drawn attention as a significant signing for RAF, which continues to build its roster. Magomedsharipov's multi-fight agreement leaves open the possibility of additional bouts beyond his November debut, potentially marking the beginning of an unexpected second chapter in the career of one of MMA's most enigmatic figures.
